  • Stove Lid lifters: These are nickel-plated steel of the late 1800s. Early stoves of woods used to have round plates which when lifted off revealed the inner works of the oven. Since these stoves were made up of cast iron and eventually became hot, a special kind of utensils known as stove lid lifter was used to move the plates. Most lid lifters were made up of steel or cast iron. Some were found to be chrome or nickel plated. These platings prevented rusting.
